Laying on the Adriatic seashore, Senigallia is traditionally considered a cosy and hospitable city and it's one of the most renowned seaside resorts in Italy. Its origin can be traced back to the Roman rule period.
The city, famous for its so called velvet beach, is placed next to the Misa river. The economic activities of the city are based on tourism. Indeed, the long shore of Senigallia alternates charming small pebble bays and crystal clear water with long golden beaches made of soft and velvet sand. Places to visit: THE ROVERESCA FORTRESS The Fortress is the symbol of the city. Giovanni Della Rovere, who was Lord of the City from 1474 to 1501, commissioned it. The construction of the fortress was started in 1480, it has a square shape with four mighty cylindrical towers on its corners. Built on Roman foundations, the monument is composed of two different fortresses, one englobed into the other; the central body was conceived as a mansion and it is surrounded by the part of the building intended for military defense. A visit to its interiors is recommended for its underground communication trenches and a permanent exhibition of contemporary art. THE PIER La Rotonda has been opened in July 18th 1933 and it has soon become a place renowned for fashion and music entertainment. In the late 80's it went through a phase of gradual decline which led to its closure. It was reopened in the summer of 2006 planning a space that is accessible to everyone, showcase of all the original proposals coming from the contemporary culture. Nowadays the calendar is always hectic.
